Idris Elba Takes Flight in ‘Hijack’, a Real-Time Thriller Debuting on Apple TV+

British powerhouse actor Idris Elba, known for his roles in “Luther” and “The Wire,” is set to embark on a new television adventure with “Hijack,” a seven-part real-time thriller coming to Apple TV+ on June 28th. Elba not only headlines the show but also serves as an executive producer, further expanding his portfolio of diverse and captivating roles.

In “Hijack,” Elba steps into the shoes of Sam Nelson, an accomplished business negotiator thrust into a high-stakes situation. The series captures the tension of a hijacked plane en route to London, with Elba’s character playing a critical role in the rescue attempts. The entire drama unfolds in real time over a seven-hour flight, promising edge-of-your-seat suspense for viewers.

The series also boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Emmy Award and NAACP Image Award winner Archie Panjabi, who plays Zahra Gahfoor, a counterterrorism officer on the ground during the hijacking. Panjabi’s character becomes an integral part of the investigation, amplifying the drama and intensity of the unfolding crisis.

“Hijack” is produced by 60Forty Films, the production company founded by Emmy Award-winning executive producers Jamie Laurenson and Hakan Kousetta. The show also marks the first series to debut from Elba’s first-look deal with Apple TV+ and his own production company, Green Door Pictures.

The addition of “Hijack” continues to enhance Apple TV+’s impressive lineup of original content. Since its launch in November 2019, Apple TV+ has quickly earned a reputation for its premium dramas, comedies, and documentaries, earning a staggering 352 wins and 1,451 award nominations, including a historic Best Picture Oscar for “CODA.”
