In a daring rescue operation, 84-year-old Spanish climber Carlos Soria was saved from a mountain in Nepal where he was injured, according to AP News. Soria, who was attempting to become the oldest person to summit all the world’s highest peaks, was hurt while scaling Mount Dhaulagiri.
As reported by AP News, Soria was flown from the mountain by a rescue helicopter on Thursday and brought to a hospital in Kathmandu for treatment. Sherpa guides and fellow climbers had assisted him down the mountain to base camp after he was injured on Wednesday.
Soria has an impressive climbing record, having scaled 12 of the 14 highest mountains in the world above 26,240 feet, including Mount Everest, the tallest of them all. As mentioned by AP News, hundreds of climbers and their guides attempt to scale the highest peaks in Nepal during the popular spring mountaineering season, which runs from March to May.
