Hip-Hop Musical ‘World’s Best’ Set to Debut on Disney+ on June 23rd

In a major boost to Disney+’s original content library, the much-awaited hip-hop musical comedy adventure “World’s Best” is all set to exclusively premiere on the platform from June 23. The film, a brainchild of co-writer and co-executive producer Utkarsh Ambudkar, features an ensemble cast that includes both familiar faces and fresh talent.

Star-Packed Cast and Crew

This film brings together Utkarsh Ambudkar, known for his performances in “Ghosts” and “Free Guy,” and “Hamilton” director Thomas Kail. Ambudkar not only co-wrote and co-executive produced “World’s Best,” but he also stars in it and co-wrote its original songs. The movie marks another directorial venture for Roshan Sethi, a former radiation oncologist turned filmmaker, who made his mark with “7 Days.”

The film features a diverse cast, including newcomer Manny Magnus, Punam Patel, Jake Choi, Max Malas, Piper Wallace, Kayla Njeri, Dorian Giordano, Kathryn Greenwood, Christopher Jackson, and Doug E. Fresh.

South Asian Representation

Ambudkar expressed his excitement about the upcoming Disney+ release, highlighting the film’s appealing blend of music and comedy. He further emphasized its significance for representation, saying, “Plus, it presents for the first time a South Asian family at the core of a Disney movie–something I never had growing up–and was something I really wanted to give young people today.”

Storyline Overview

“World’s Best” narrates the tale of 12-year-old mathematical prodigy Prem Patel, played by Manny Magnus. Navigating through the typical trials and tribulations of adolescence, Prem learns about his deceased father’s famous rapping career, sparking his journey to become a rap superstar himself. The film explores Prem’s passionate pursuit, fuelled by vivid fantasies of performing hip-hop with his late father.
